A Message from Pastor Weaver

I am delighted to greet you through the medium of our website, and in the name of our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! We are excited and energized in pursuit of the mission God has given us, to reach and save souls for Christ and positively impact lives and families in our immediate community and around the world. As you search through our site, you will gain a sense of what God has purposed us to do to advance his kingdom through worship, witness, and ministry.

At Greater Mt. Nebo we recognize that God’s Word provides answers to the issues and challenges facing families, married couples, singles, youth and young adults. Under the power of the Holy Spirit, we provide relevant teaching and preaching so that people will live a life of meaning, fulfillment and destiny. Through our 50 different ministries, there is a variety of opportunities for persons to make an impact on the lives of others.

My wife, Pamela, joins me in expressing joy in the privilege to serve at Greater Mt. Nebo. If you are not a part of our church family, we invite you to go beyond your visit to our website and come worship with us on any given Sunday! Secondly, if you are already a disciple here, spend some time at this site regularly, so that from the ease of a computer, you can be kept informed of God’s movement at Greater Mt. Nebo.

Finally, I wish to encourage you by sharing that Psalm 68:19 declares, “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loaded us with benefits”. Everyday of your life put your faith in God, and watch Him bless you exceedingly and abundantly beyond anything you could ask or imagine. Have a wonderful day in the Lord.

Pastor Weaver’s Bio

Jonathan Leslie Weaver, a native Marylander, accepted his appointment to Greater Mt. Nebo African Methodist Episcopal Church in April of 1988. Under Rev. Weaver’s spiritual guidance, the Greater Mt. Nebo family has increased from 100 members to more than 1,600 and has approximately 50 ministries that serve the church and the greater community. Under the Vision to Victory Campaign, Rev. Weaver spearheaded Greater Mt. Nebo’s purchase of 87 acres of land and the building of our current house of worship, as well as, our Christian Academy located in Bowie, Maryland. Upon its completion, the Greater Mt. Nebo campus will house an assisted-living care facility and a Family Life and Wellness Intergenerational Center. God has blessed Rev. Weaver with a vision to build a worship facility that will serve both the Greater Mt. Nebo family and the broader community.

Rev. Weaver has a strong belief that one’s Christian duty should encompass community outreach. Under Rev. Weaver’s leadership, Greater Mt. Nebo’s ministries have had many successful projects in the community such as assisting in the Christmas in April Program, Food & Friends, and the Tools for School Program. Rev. Weaver’s sense of community transcends the borders of Prince George’s County. In 1991,1995, and the summer of 2004, Rev. Weaver led mission trips to West Africa on behalf of Greater Mt. Nebo. In 1999, Rev. Weaver preached and lectured in Swaziland and served as an official delegate to the Conference on Reconciliation held in Benin. As a result of his willingness to extend his gifts and talents to those abroad, Greater Mt. Nebo has developed close ties in parts of West Africa and recently adopted a village in Benin.
